Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in India.Every 4 minute 1 women is diagnosed of breast cancer.1 out of 2 women suffering from breast cancer dies.
Now unlike the Western world young women 20 to 30 years are suffering from breast cancer,which is more invasive.As there is lack of awareness the patients come to doctor at later stages.Urban women suffer more from breast cancer because of lifestyle of taking canned/ fast foods ,lack of exercise and less time for breastfeeding .This disease is genetic but only in 5 to 10% cases.Self breast examination and lifestyle modification is very
essential.The Bengal Obstetric and Gynaecological Society under national programme of FOGSI organized a car rally on 5th Nov 23 to spread the awareness of Breast cancer.Though October is the awareness month for breast cancer but because of Durga Puja it is being held on 1st Sunday of Nov in West Bengal.The rally was decorated with pink banners, flags, balloons.There were 24 cars of all doctors and 15 motorbikes with slogans of awareness.Pink was the dress code with pink cap.
The rally started from Pratishruti BOGS office ended in Tata MedicalCentre ,Newtown,
where the team of Oncology doctors greated us.The rally had senior Past Presidents to junior members of BOGS .
The stars of the event were four breast cancer survivors,and one of them also came from Bangladesh narrated their sensitive journey.They released the bunch of pink helium balloons in the air.Dr Mousumi De Banerjee,President, Dr Jayita Chakraborti, Hony.Secretary on behalf of BOGS felicitated the Tata team with memento. It was a very successful program.
