JPS Students Undertake a ‘Fruitful’ Journey into the PastSeek blessings from elders at old-age homes on the occasionof Independence Day
Sonapur, South 24 Parganas, 15th August, 2024: In a unique and inspiring journey for self-development on the occasion of the 78th Independece Day, the students of one of greater Kolkata’s leading CBSE-affiliated institution Jyotirmoy Public School (JPS) today visited several old-age homes in the region to seek the blessings of elderlies as part of JPS’s strivings to shape young minds into responsible and compassionate citizens.
Established in 2004 and with 2268 students, JPS has positioned itself as a repository of cutting-edge education in rural West Bengal, particularly in the Sunderbans region, to help lift the quality of learning in these areas.
So committed were the students to the calling of the moment that each contributed an apple to create baskets that they carried to old-age homes and NGOs, seeking blessings and support for the school’s mission in creating equal educational opportunities for all. The old-age homes that they visited included: Mukto Bihongo (Natagachi), Second Innings (Sikari Para, Sonarpur), Peace Senior Living (South Gobindapur), Aumorto (Brindakhali, Baruipur), Senior Care Home (Narendrapur), Ekante (Ghasiara), Shelter for the Urban Homeless (Malancha Mahi Nagar), and Paras Padma, Centre for Physically Challenged (Makrampur).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Partha Sarathi Ganguli, Founder & President, Managing Committee, JPS, said, “It is not always the history books where we learn from. We must connect with our elders to understand their lives and times so that we can learn life-lessons from their experiences because their presence in our lives is a beacon we must follow. I am extremely happy to note that on this momentous occasion, our students are walking that extra mile to understand the values of life our predecessors have lived and died for during our freedom struggle. As we believe, education for all is the key to freedom in the real sense of the term.”
Echoing his views, Mr. Sushant Das, Principal, JPS said: “It is so heart-warming to see that our students have so lovingly reached out to our elders on this Independence Day, thereby furthering our mission to create great ambassadors for our nation.”
