Kolkata, March 7, 2025 – The city of Kolkata witnessed the grand opening of the Bengal Auto Expo 2025, its first-ever comprehensive automobile exhibition, today at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre, New Town. The highly anticipated event was inaugurated by Shri Tapash Chatterjee, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly marking a significant milestone for the region's automotive industry.

Recognizing the growing importance of sustainable transportation, the Bengal Auto Expo 2025 is showcasing a significant number of electric vehicles (EVs), reflecting the industry's shift towards battery-electric alternatives.

The transition away from fossil-fuel driven vehicles is accelerating, with battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) steadily gaining market share. Recent data underscores this trend, particularly in Kolkata and across West Bengal. In January 2025 alone, 530 units of EV four-wheelers were registered in the region, a substantial increase from the 177 units registered in January 2024.
